The Project
CeraVe had gained widespread popularity but had not evolved its visual identity. The challenge was to modernize the brand while maintaining its clinical trust and strong brand equity. Additionally, research revealed frustration with rigid, waste-heavy packaging.
The Exploration
The main focus of this packaging rebrand was to focus on sustainability and brand identity. After research and mood mapping, the sketches shown here were focused on how CeraVe would accomplish this. A big focus was zero waste. This was accomplished by airless pumps, removable bottoms, and recyclable plastic pouches. In this stage, brand identity was also explored. The design was focused on what made the brand unique, such as the three essential ceramides and scientific structures.
The Direction
The decision to go with this direction was because it most effectively accomplished the objectives of the project (eco-friendly and zero waste). The clamshell is reusable across all of their cleaners, as well as their moisturizers. The pouch is flexible and recyclable (allowing for easy travel and zero-waste of the product inside).
The Extension
The second part of this project was to create a product extension that made sense for the brand, increasing revenue and popularity. After research, I decided that it would be beneficial that CeraVe added pimple patches to their product line. Here are some examples of ideation with colors and layouts of this project.
The Making
When I started this project, I had to think about the most effective way to showcase my designs. The best way to do this was through Blender because it's basically like free world play if you know how to use it. Luckily, I knew someone who is an expert in Blender. My brother (Youtube: Blender Made Easy) helped me bring my models to life. It is an overwhelming workspace to learn, but I had so much fun learning about it.
The Result
The rebrand modernizes CeraVe without alienating loyal customers. The refill system positions the company toward sustainability and long-term scalability. This project demonstrates strategic thinking, systems design, and product innovation.
